Political Tolerance and the Prospects for Achieving Peace in Sudan

Abstract

The paper aimed to explain how political tolerance can contribute to achieving peace in Sudan, as well as to identify the most important factors for the success and obstacles to achieving political tolerance in Sudan. The importance of the paper lies in its treatment of one of the most important political and societal values ​​that usually contribute to resolving political crises and achieving peace through other measures. It also presents political tolerance as a moral value and an integral and important part that can achieve peace in Sudan. The paper started from a main hypothesis that the spread of political tolerance in Sudan can contribute to achieving peace. The paper used the historical and descriptive approach and the future studies approach. The paper also relied on primary and secondary sources such as books, magazines, periodicals, university theses, scientific research and the Internet. The paper addressed its topics through several axes, starting with defining political tolerance, justifications and reasons for the prevalence of political tolerance, its types and indicators of its existence, peace and the most important factors for achieving it in societies, political tolerance in Sudan and obstacles to achieving it, as well as the requirements for the success of political tolerance in achieving peace in Sudan and the future role that political tolerance can play in achieving peace in the future. The paper concluded with a conclusion and a set of results and recommendations. The most prominent results are that political tolerance is one of the political and moral values ​​that should prevail in pluralistic and diverse societies. Political tolerance contributes to achieving peace and strengthening its pillars in partnership with other factors. There are many obstacles that limit the role that political tolerance can play in achieving peace in Sudan. Political tolerance needs many requirements and tools that help it contribute to achieving peace in Sudan. The future of the role that political tolerance can play in achieving peace in Sudan is linked to many future scenarios. The paper also recommended the necessity of considering and adopting political tolerance as one of the most important policies that must be followed in managing diversity and pluralism in Sudan, and introducing and adopting political tolerance as a curriculum in all educational stages to emphasize it as a moral and behavioral value that protects societies from division and dispersion, and providing a pure national will to create and spread the spirit of political tolerance among societal and political components, forgetting the bitterness of the past, getting rid of injustice and opening up to the different other, and benefiting from all tools and mechanisms that can contribute to achieving peace through tolerance, such as civil administration and religious men.
