Abstract

This article discusses the international and regional contexts that contributed to the birth of the Atlantic Initiative launched by Morocco in 2023, which aims to connect African countries along the Atlantic coast on the one hand, and provide Sahelian countries with access to the Atlantic Ocean on the other hand, it aligns with Morocco's broader efforts to strengthen its economic and political ties with sub-Saharan Africa, in addition to analyzing the mechanisms that would facilitate the application and implementation of the Moroccan Atlantic Initiative and the challenges that could face its execution. both, those related to international geopolitical competition and those related to the regional situation, particularly Morocco's relations with neighboring countries, the huge requirements for investment in infrastructure and regional connectivity networks, and address critical issues such as security, migration, and the effects of climate change, as such the topic is of considerable relevance, it reflects a strategic axis of cooperation and integration within the broader framework of what is known as the New South.
