Repository Policy

Commitment to Scholarly Dissemination and Self-Archiving

The Journal of Strategic and Military Studies (JSMS), published by the Arab Democratic Center for Strategic, Political, and Economic Studies in Berlin, Germany, is committed to promoting the accessibility, dissemination, visibility, and long-term preservation of scholarly research.

In accordance with its open-access publishing model, the journal supports author self-archiving and permits authors to deposit versions of their scholarly work in institutional repositories, disciplinary or subject-based repositories, recognized digital archives, and personal academic websites.

This policy aims to encourage the international circulation of scientific knowledge, enhance the discoverability and scholarly impact of published research, and support the principles of open scholarly communication.

Permitted Versions for Repository Deposit

Authors may deposit different versions of their research, subject to the journal's applicable copyright, publication, and open-access policies.

These versions may include:

  • Submitted Manuscript (Preprint): The original manuscript submitted for publication before undergoing peer review.

  • Accepted Manuscript (Author Accepted Manuscript): The manuscript accepted for publication following peer review and the incorporation of required revisions, but before the journal's final typesetting and formatting.

  • Published Version (Version of Record): The final, officially published article as made available on the journal's website.

The deposit of any version must comply with the applicable publication agreement, copyright provisions, and licensing conditions.

In accordance with the journal's open-access policy, articles published under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) licence may be shared and deposited for non-commercial purposes, provided that the licence conditions are respected.

Conditions for Repository Deposit

When depositing a manuscript or published article in a repository, authors are required to:

  1. Clearly identify the version of the work being deposited, specifying whether it is a preprint, accepted manuscript, or published Version of Record.

  2. Provide complete bibliographic information, including the article title, author names, journal title, publication year, volume, issue, page numbers or article identifier where applicable, and Digital Object Identifier (DOI), if available.

  3. Include a citation and a direct link to the final published version on the official JSMS website, preferably using the article's DOI or permanent URL.

  4. Acknowledge the Journal of Strategic and Military Studies as the original place of publication.

  5. Respect the copyright of authors and third parties and comply with the terms of the applicable Creative Commons licence.

  6. Ensure that the deposited content accurately represents the designated version and does not mislead readers regarding its review or publication status.

Copyright and Licensing

The repository deposit of an article must comply with the copyright and licensing conditions governing the published work.

Articles made available under CC BY-NC 4.0 may be copied, shared, redistributed, and adapted for non-commercial purposes, provided that appropriate attribution is given to the original author(s), the source and licence are acknowledged, and any modifications are indicated.

Commercial reuse is not authorized by this licence and requires separate permission from the relevant rights holder(s).

Authors are responsible for verifying whether third-party materials included in their manuscripts, such as photographs, figures, maps, tables, or datasets, are covered by the applicable licence or require additional permission.

Long-Term Preservation and Research Visibility

JSMS encourages authors to deposit their research in reliable digital repositories that support long-term accessibility, stable identification, appropriate metadata, and scholarly discoverability.

Repository deposits complement the journal's digital archiving and preservation arrangements, including its use of the PKP Preservation Network and persistent article identifiers.

The journal encourages the inclusion of accurate bibliographic metadata and permanent links to the published version to facilitate indexing, citation tracking, and responsible scholarly reuse.

Through this repository policy, the Journal of Strategic and Military Studies reaffirms its commitment to open scholarly communication, research visibility, responsible self-archiving, and the sustainable preservation of scientific knowledge.

Authors are encouraged to disseminate their work through appropriate repositories while respecting the journal's publication policies, intellectual property requirements, and applicable licensing conditions.
